About France is AI - founded in 2016

About us

France benefits from an amazing AI ecosystem: we can be proud of our renowned researchers and labs, our talent bench thanks to strong academic programs, the vibrant community of meetups and associations

as well as our powerful AI diaspora. Yet, despite these tremendous assets, France is still not perceived globally as a key hub for Artificial Intelligence.

That’s why we launched France is AI in 2016 with the mission to support and promote our ecosystem on the national and global levels.

The initiative has 4 key objectives:

Build a dynamic landscape of the AI ecosystem including all key players – startups, research labs, meetups, education – and provide a calendar of events happening in France and abroad.

Organize the annual “France is AI” conference to celebrate the ecosystem as well as exchange on the latest research, applications or debate the societal implications.

Build bridges with other AI hubs (USA, Canada, United-Kingdom, the Switzerland, China).

Support initiatives that help promote our ecosystem on a local, national and international scale.

We recognize that we need to gather as an ecosystem if we want to matter in this global AI race. That’s why we want to adopt a “By the ecosystem, For the ecosystem” philosophy.

  • Help foster the existing ecosystem and boost its activity through promoting current and upcoming initiatives.
  • Speak out as an ecosystem in public debates as well as help shape the legal and political framework to ensure we can be competitive as an ecosystem. As a non-governmental initiative, we want our ecosystem to have its own voice while engaging in constructive discussions with the government and public authorities to turn France into a global leader in AI.
  • Redistribute sponsors’ contributions to support a variety of initiatives. Far from being sufficient, we want this redistribution to serve as an example and help shine a light on some initiatives.

To guide our mission, we have put together a Board that matches our philosophy with the desire to be representative of all actors across Research labs, Startups, Education, Community and Financing; a group coming from all over France as well as a mixed gender group.

By the ecosystem, For the ecosystem.
